Following a chat over a cup of tea with a VIP who visited me at work, I thought I would draw your attention (if it hasn't already become clear) that Cravendale milk, (which has some wacky cartoon advert) is extra filtered, and therefore lasts a lot longer than ordinary milk.

I would even say it tastes slightly better, but only by a small amount.

I used to work for a small dairy during school holidays years ago, and if I could get it would have Gold Top - but sadly it seems no longer available - but Cravendale is the next best thing.

Any other adverts which live up to their claims???

I agree! It really is that good! Stays fresh for ages. Almost all the advantages of UHT without the plastic taste (Almost insofar that it must be kept in the fridge even when unopened to get the best but it would be interesting to see what the "Shelf life" would be un-refridgerated)

The only problem I have with the advert is that it doesnt really set out to explain exactly what the process is or what the benefits are prefering the catchy animation to attract the attention with only a passing refrence to what the product actually does!

They are fortunate that it ddnt backfire on them in the way that it did for Comfort with there "Fast Dry" fabric conditioner.

That really worked too, but it didnt sell and was discontinued because the "Catchy rag-doll" advert failed to explain to people how the product worked and how best to use it!

As a result people did not use it properly and ended up convinced that it didnt work which was a real shame since it not only worked but was great for flat dwellers with no outside drying.

(The ad gave the impression that washing hanging out to dry would dry quicker. It didnt! This is not how the product worked. it was more like the "Rince aid" in dishwashers. what it did was allow more of the water to "Slide off" the fabric during a high speed spin cycle allowing SUBSIQUENT wash line drying to take place quicker (And with less damp/condensation in the house) In fact, polyester and other synthetics basically came out of the machine dry! It was that effective. But non of this was explained in the stoopid advert!!! :x )

Braun/Oral B electric toothbrushes. Vastly superior to manual brushing and as advertised.

Exactly what are they filtering out of the milk?

When a cow is milked, her teats are normally dry wiped (this helps to stimulated milk flow as well as clean them) then the units are put on her. These are held on with vacuum so as long as the teats are clean there will be no contaminants.

The milk is tested for bacteria and mastitis cell counts, antibiotics, protein, lactose and one or two other things so the only thing in the tank is milk. How fine would the filter need to be? Too fine and the fat wouldn't go through it, probably.

The claim is that they are filtering out (Most of) the remaining bactria left after pasturisation with ceramic filters, as a result the milk lasts considerably longer than "fresh" milk that has only been pasturised while still tasting prety damed good unlike UHT which while pretty indestructable (which since it will last more or less indefintaly unles opened to the air, must have no bacteria after treatment!) but ends up tasting like something that came out of a chemical factory!

1. Milk tastes disgusting.

2. Why do I want it to last any longer than it does when the milkman brings some more tomorrow?

3. Milk still tastes disgusting.

Hmm. I started with a cold on Friday afternoon - streaming nose and sneezing - but in my medicine cabinet at home I had some Actifed Day and Night which we bought in France when my eldest son had a cold.
Took one of the tablets Saturday afternoon and then one Saturday night - they are arranged in the packet as breakfast, midday and tea time - and got a good nights sleep, and was perfectly OK today!!
Could not find them on the net here - just the French one! Anyone any idea if they are available here - I'd use them again!

RTTM (your cold might have been receding anyway) and 'bias on selection' (good night's sleep) :D

:D

(That's in no way being disrespectful to anyone BTW).

I think something may be missing here; the product can only ever be as good as the nourishment of the beast?

Memories of the late 80’s for me when I was trying to body-build eating beef from Saintbusys coming from Ireland fed, or beefed-up, on Clenbuterol...

I remember it well, even if others don't

Good topic Ernest

Still think the one Peter E put up long time ago was more accurate ( said something like cash point on the rear -Pete)-was in jovially reply to camera signs .

This one, I think:

Although I would say we have Photoshop to thank for that ;)

That's the one - Photoshop , or no - now that "Does what it says on the advert" - ne'est pas (as the French might be inclined to say)

It only missed the bit about placing debit card in slot beside .

To be sure, it needs a bigger sample size to extrapolate more accurate data - but in the meantime, I will definitely be considering using it again... if I can get some more. :)

Incidentally, my eldest son made a very quick recovery too - while my wife who elected to stick to Neurophen has suffered for a week! :scratchchin:

When my children were both toddlers with colds in France, we tried to get a French equivalent to Calpol - but instead were guided to a product called CATTABEX Syrop de Enfants - which proved incredibly effective at treating breathing difficulties due to the colds.

When I asked our local chemist if he had a UK equivalent, he told me that he would not be allowed to sell it over the counter here - although he could sell two different products which should have the same effect. The French sell all sorts of things we are not allowed over here - although they do keep shotgun cartridges locked up in the supermarkets now, instead of in bargain bins in the aisles like they used to! :o

We (the family) have had a few "colds" like that in the last few weeks. Something that starts out like a cold and you go to bed with a "Lemsip" (other cold remedies are available!) and then you wake up the next morning and it's gone.

Next time your whole family goes down, then see what happens when you give half of them the Lemsip and the other half a lemony placebo :D

Watch out Mole - there is a lot of chesty coughs circulating down this end of the county - some schools have had lots of absences for the coughs, which turn into a cold a week later!
My kids stayed healthy until they started school - then they brought all sort of ills home!

I am a firm believer in Rum and Blackcurrant Ribena as a means of dealing with colds (for adults!). :wine:

The Ribena contains vitamin C to fight the cold, and the rum helps you forget or not care about the symptoms!

Lots of people swear by Hot Toddies - personally I hate waiting to get the cold before you can start knocking them back! :drink2:
