Traction steam engines - often called road locomotives - became popular in Britain from the 1850s.
The metal-wheeled vehicles were used to tow heavy equipment and usually travel at around 3-4mph.
THERE'S the cause!!!
Excess speed - 5mph instead of 3 - 4 mph - 33% above it's normal operational speed, and with the wrong tyres on!
Everyone knows that metal tyres are dodgy in the wet!!
Is this vehicle supposed to carry three while towing a caravan? I realise they don't have to have seatbelts fitted - but were they wearing hard hats?
