Being in my early (cough) 50s i get free eye tests (Both parents had Cataracts-glaucoma)
I've worn soft contacts for thirty odd years, i could never wear specs driving.

I was talking with my sister a few weeks back (shes got eye probs too) she had enquired at various clinics about eye surgery and has been turned down on each occasion because of her eye condition.

I came across this site, http://www.viewpointvision.com/procedur ... tracorneal
She gave them a call yesterday and today they returned the call telling her they could treat her with Lens implants, Cost 6k, I'm very pleased for her but i have concearns.
Obviously science has come a long way.
Has anyone here ever had such treatment ? Your opinions please .

A colleague of mine (in his 70's) has had these fitted after cataract surgery. After having worn glasses all his life, his eyesight is now better than mine. IMO this is a better technique than laser surgery as it is unlikely to create halos or fail with time.

Funnily enough I emailed a friend about this today as a colleague's mother is considering it. He'd had it done c.10 years ago.

He recommended it unequivocally.

My sis is more worried about the driving test eye exam , shes bordeline.
Theres some very good youtube videos that look very interesting (if you dont mind seeing eyes being operated on)

The implant idea looks good because it can be reversed if there's any problems.
Wish i could afford it :(

Few years ago ,we were warned that it( laser surgery) might cause problems with night vision on rail safety critical work ,and the advice was to seek the advice of our medical advisory team . on the other hand ,mrs B has had cataract surgery on both eyes ,and she reports no problems from day /night one . Only one problem has occurred - we now use the same strength of reading glasses - and I have to mark my non prescription traders to save getting them mixed up with hers .

What my friend didn't mention was laser eye surgery stopped him getting into the fire brigade. Don't understand why.

Maybe he's happy being :bib: instead.

56 years after it was decided it was needed, the Bedford Bypass is nearing completion. The last single carriageway length of it.We have the most photogenic mayor though, always being photographed doing nothing

Mrs M. is "in the trade" - though nothing to do directly with opthalmology. Interestingly, she's never met a glasses-wearing opthalmologist who has had considered having it done. Few even wear contact lenses. I'm sure it works well for most of the people, most of the time, but for me, her colleagues' silence is sufficient to put me off. (Well, that and the fact that I can't afford it)!

Implants appear to be less of a problem than lasik/ lasek
http://www.privatehealth.co.uk/hospital ... -implants/
The disadvantage of phakic contact lens implant surgery is that it is intra-ocular (like a cataract operation). A remote chance that surgery may introduce an infection into the eye does exist. Other surgery related complications are possible. In some patients problems with night vision and glare have been reported. Less glare and halo’s are experienced when compared to the glare often associated with LASIK.
