Workmen’s wonky double yellow lines branded ‘vandalism’ after botch-job infuriates locals
By Daily Mail Reporter - Last updated at 4:20 PM on 15th April 2011

Furious traders at first thought they had been vandalised when they saw the scruffy, crooked yellow lines and white, mis-shapen parking bays on the historic cobbles of their town.

Some car-owners even reported their vehicles being sprayed with white and yellow paint when council workers carried out the two-day botch-job in Yarm, Teesside this week.
It has caused chaos among the heavily-used parking bays as vans and family cars are unable to fit in the spaces which have been made too small.

On the straight and narrow!
The affluent area is frequented by footballers and businessmen and is the local shopping area of former England manager Steve McClaren, who lives nearby.

High street trader Kaye Allan said: 'People are honestly just stunned. Some of the lines are thin, while others are really fat and uneven. It is absolutely appalling.
'I really didn't believe they were from the council - I thought it was a practical joke. We have become the laughing stock of the country and it is ruining our beautiful cobbles. It is awful.'
Peter Bell, of designer clothes shop The House, said: 'We became very suspicious when we realised he wasn't actually very good at spraying and was marking bays in the wrong directions and the wrong sizes.
'Many members of the public have reported to me that they have white and yellow paint on their cars and the repair bills could be colossal.'
Shoddy: Some car-owners even reported their vehicles being sprayed with white and yellow paint when council workers carried out the two-day bodge job in Yarm, Teesside this week.

Local businessman Jason Hadlow said: 'I can't believe what is going on. Whoever this person is needs to be stopped.
'Some of these bays are absolutely ridiculous.'

A spokesman for Stockton Borough Council said: 'The painted lines are a temporary measure to make parking bays clearer for car owners.
'Unfortunately, because of the nature of the cobblestones, painted markings get worn quite quickly.
'We apologise for the standard of these temporary markings.
'We will be laying permanent lines over the weekend bringing the markings back up to standard.
'This work will be carried out during off-peak hours to minimise disruption.'
Well since they are NOT proper signs they will be illegal and therefore can be ignored ! :)
