Hi all,

camera situated on westbound A78 into Greenock right next to a main junction, now i wouldn't go over 35MPH at the camera site so i checked the speedo just before entering the site and was coming down to 35MPH, hal way into the site i thought better just double check it in case it has creeped over to 36MPH, by the time i had done this i looked up and a driver had decided to take a chance and pull out of the junction to the central reservation, i missed him but it was close, proof if any was needed that these things are a danger.

Say i had hit the car, if i was looking at the road ahead i would have been able to brake and hit his side about 10MPH or even avoid it all together but by looking at the speedo would have distributed 1 1/2 tons of metal into his door at 35MPH because of the camera..how would that have made the "safety camera" look?

Andrew

And here's a story about a camera that killed, just by being in the same area:

And then there's Stephen Weymouth:

He died here:

A particular nasty problem is if two road users react differently to a camera ahead... If the front one brakes and the rear one looks down at the speedo, even a perfectly decent gap turns into nothing at all in a couple of seconds.

And of course there's Kevin Lee:

He's the trucker who killed himself because he feared that he was going to lose his job after being flashed.

Paul,

It is particularly amazing what transport for London spokesperson said with regards to the motorbike accident.

I seem to notice "bunching" of cars at this site I was talking about where there was none before, the road (A8 not A78)could easily be a 40MPH limit.
