Is it just me or is Firefox crashing on a regular basis? Every time I use it, it seems to freeze up after about 1 minute, then it seems to unfreeze after another couple of minutes or crash altogether.

No problems here - maybe worth running a full anti-virus check and reinstalling it.

My office computer is doing something similar when running Chrome - it crashes and restarts the computer every time my wife goes on the Daily Mail website. In Firefox it is fine.

I have tried re-installing, changing cookie options, etc. etc., so now she just uses Firefox again!

On the plus side, while trying to sort it, I finally found how to turn off those irritating security pop ups in Vista, that tell you "a change requested needs your permission"!

chromes fine and faster than firefox but I have lots of things bookmarked in firefox and it crashes on everything. I would reinstall it but need to delete it first but can't find how to do it (computers aren't my thing)

Firefox 15.0.1 -
since updating to latest version ,as above had similar problems . Done a Malware byres run and also a Superantispyware run with no results, as does Windows defender. Only thing of significance is that I've got a stubborn search engine ( babylon) popping up now and then .It only happens on FF,as on IE9, I've taken control of cookies. It was one of those so called options I deleted on a program instal to find that after I'd accepted T & C that toolbar was installed against my wishes.

Check what add-ons (via menu Tools/Add-ons) you have installed.

Remove or disable the ones that you don't use, and ensure the ones you want are all up-to-date!

I think, I've cured it but don't ask me how...;-) The last thing I did was clear recent history as advised on the firefox troubleshooting site and updated something...... :D thanks all for your help

What graphics card do you have installed ?

If it's a radeon then go into firefox prefs, Advanced tab and turn off Hardware acceleration. For some reason Firefox doesn't like Radeons !

Tools > Options.

Or type about:config into the address bar if you want a full list. Just note the warning if you do.

Back on subject, most firefox problems are caused by addons. Toolbars you didn't know you had asked for, etc.

Chrome can import all your bookmarks - either during instllation, or drop down the spanner and choose BOOKMARKS then IMPORT BOOKMARKS AND SETTINGS and choose your source browser!

Cheers for that Ernest. I haven't a clue what graphics I'm using. My brother sort of owns/upgrades the computer everytime he visits so I don't have any input apart from emails and on line waffle....;-)

It seems much better now, whatever I did...;-)

Tried the about:config option. Few posts back I mentioned something about being plagued by a babylon toolbar. It shows up on this . Can I kill it in about:config?

Edit- tried Tools.options, no sign of prefs. But there's info on FF help on crashes. It suggests they may be down to Flash problems. Cure is to update to newer or downgrade. I've tried an upgrade. Will keep site posted .

Edit - still happening ( can't find the pref box). FF site has tales of crashes, putting it down to Adobe flash. I tried their solution -no good, so I've gone back to FF10 .

Ok.. I use Linux and Firefox menus are slightly different but I believe the location has already been mentioned for Windows.

Here's a screeny so you can see the correct window & tab opened

My cursor is next to the option you want to (try) disable

I discovered this issue whilst trying to solve a Firefox issue on my brothers Windows PC (he had just installed a Radeon)

Thanks, but I've solved the problem for now ,as FF can't give an exact fixand just waffles on about how it could be the fault of Adobe flash xxx or yyy. I've taken the view of it's not brike, so why update ,and gone back to version 10 and my old addons, which worked for me.
