I was going to not post this, or post it somewhere private, but today, (this evening), as I came home from work and switched on the local TV news, I watched in disbelief that a friend and gentleman was killed last night. :(

He was such a nice guy, so friendly and the all-too-rare quality of listening. In between random meetings, I always met him on St George's outings, a regular annual biker event in The Midlands which celebrated being British. It was an event where families would come out and wave us on and, so I always felt, dispelled any myth or notion that bikers are all bad or Hells Angels.

It's got me down, big time!

I hope they get the bastards who did this and send them down for a long, long, time. I could say more, but it would be censored.

He would never have just picked a fight; not on anyone!!! The worthless scum who did this, those pathetic cowards, who have also given everyone who loved and cared about Nigel a life sentence, have taken the life of a lovely man.

I will miss you Nigel and wish I'd got the moment to tell you how nice and friendly and helpful you were and how much I thought of you - but then I didn't know our society had become so sick. That could so easily have been me on that fateful night...

Toniht,I got a response I thought was forotten . So don't ever give up .
I've had a drug dealer doing stuff opposite me for a long time. And he's often thiuht he's immune from the law. Toniht, he had a visit. Car gone- he'd missed out on his tax/insurance payments. he'd also been involved in a hit and run on a vulnerable person, but no proof was available. They "ALWAYS GET COMME UPANCE"

Thanks Dave.

I know what you mean but I don't believe in 'what goes around comes around'.

Sometimes it does, and the media would have you believe that's always the case, but I'm a realist and as for beliefs - seperate topic....

Really sorry to hear about this chap.

My sincere sympathies. There is always something that seems so much worse when someone we know and appreciate is suddenly gone.

Part of that is the massive change to our lifestyle and the awful pain of missing someone. The pain whose only cure is to learn how to cope without.

My good school friend just a few weeks ago had one of her two daughters killed in a freak horse riding accident - I had to attend the funeral, and I still feel so very much in shock that she is gone, too.

I quite agree when someone is brutally attacked and in such a manner that their life is taken, they ought to be held up to manslaughter/murder appropriately. I too hope that they catch them and implement the full force of the Law.
Try to celebrate the life that he had than concentrate on his loss. Take care Big Tone. :)

Thanks Claire; you're very kind.

It doesn’t help that as we get older we keep losing people, friends, relatives – pets as well. But the manner of this just makes me despond.

You just know they are going to get off with some pathetic sentence tantamount to a slap on the wrist; that’s after it has taken an age to go to court in the first place. There will be mitigating factors, denials and “awe but they’re only young” so didn't realise what they were doing and how they didn't mean it to end like that. What bull s :censored: t!

Well that's what can happen with any attack! That's the risk you run if your intention is to give someone an undeserved and unprovoked assault which turns into murder or manslaughter.

Why would someone like Nigel, anyone, coming back from a nice evening think “I know, I’ll pick a fight on a gang of youths coming my way”? He wouldn’t, any more than I would, even if they were taunting or provoking him. It makes me sick to my stomach!

I’ll keep an eye on the events as they unfold but I have little doubt about the final outcome. :x We’ll see..

I always remember meeting him in Stratford-upon-Avon years ago and he told me a funny tail of how he had to attend the local Court for a minor traffic violation. (Riding over the pavement to park instead of pushing it). When they asked his name, (as they do), he replied with "Shakespeare". :D He said they thought he was having a laugh at their expense and asked him to be serious  :cloud9:

I shall be going on the ride in his memory

HUNDREDS of bikers are expected to take part in a ride-out in memory of Redditch man Nigel Shakespeare.

Mr Shakespeare, or Shaggy, as he was known to his friends, died following an incident in Sillins Avenue, in Lakeside, on Sunday, February 24. He was walking home from the Kings Arms pub with his partner when it happened.

Three youths have since been charged with manslaughter and released on bail.

Childhood friend and fellow biker Andy Pyatt said: “The reason for holding this ride is two-fold. We want to raise money for Nigel’s partner, to help with the funeral expenses, but we also wanted to hold it so that the biking community can remember him.

“He was formerly chairman of the 1066 motorcycle club, and is known by members from clubs all over the region. We can’t say how many bikers will be taking part, but we think it might be near to 500.”

Within just days of Mr Pyatt posting information about the ride on Facebook, approximately 200 people messaged to say they would be attending.

Mr Shakespeare and Mr Pyatt lived near each other, and attended school and college together, as well as sharing a love of motorcycles.

Mr Pyatt said: “He was genuine, a really great bloke with a lot of friends who he cared for, and will be really missed by everyone who knew him.

“He was involved with supporting the National Association for Bikers with a Disability (NABD) and took part in many charity events with all of us, including Ryan’s Ride.

“We hope this ride-out will be a way of remembering him, by doing something he loved so much - riding motorbikes.”

Shaggy’s Ride of Remembrance will be leaving Hopwood Park Services at 10am on Saturday, March 23, going to Bridgnorth Bikers Cafe. The cost is £5 per biker.

Oh well, time to delete another number from my phone... :(
