Mostly PPI chasers, but there's also a surge in cold calling idiots in the Manchester area . I've had two lots, one a Telecoms company, purporting to be a vodafone main agent ( problem is that Vody don't know them). I adcvised them on first call tht my number was registered with TPS."ah said sage, that don't apply to mobiles". Then I checked on TPS, it does, so complaint straight in .Then I found this site -https://www.snapsurveys.com/swh/surveylogin.asp?k=134674895144, it's an ICO site which registers complaints about cold calling calls and texts, and ICO is getting tough, or so they say.
Next one was from a PPI chaser ( from info on "who calls me" ). I didn't answer this one, just dropped the call . If they call again, I think they are going to get a touch of the shed alarm , which will get network limited, and unless the company has invested in anti shock headsets will put the operator hors de combat for a short spell . So if you get a call from an 0161 number, be prepared for a cold caller. At the right time, I enjoy cold caller baiting. But what's nicer is telling them that TPS has a personal fine waiting for them for not checking that my number is not on a list ( personal fine bit is rubbish, but I've heard lots of callers apologise profusely and never call back).

Mention TPS, ask for their name, address of headquarters etc, usually means the call gets cut off faster than weepy disappearing when asking to clarify some more BS.

I've heard the thing to do to wind them up is pretend you are interested then after a minute of chat, say...."there's someone at the door, be right back", put phone down and leave them listening to silence for as long as it takes them to realise they've been had.

I've been doing that for years

I'm getting a lot more cold callers at my door recently who say "I'm not here to sell you anything", and go on to talk about double glazing or some such...

This happened only two weeks ago and he was so good at listening, (not), that he obviously missed what I said first time around.. "I'm a lodger here".

I'm not, but they dont know that of course. Their pitch suddenly changes to "well thanks for your time" for some reason.

If someone can point me to a printable 'fcuk off I'm not interested unless you're family' or it's an emergency thing I can stick on my door I'd be grateful. :)

Tone- get inventive- I've got a couple of posters on my windows, but they keep calling. One sats "No cold callers2 , other says "Beware of DOG". I just open door, tell them to F** offf and go back to my seat.

One I had recently was from someone claiming he could get my council tax band reduced. Since I've already had it reduced by one band a few years ago a further reduction seems extremely implausible. Once I asked him to provide more evidence of how this could be done he lost his temper and hung up

I have caller display on my phone, so anything that says "International" I just ignore as there's no reason for anyone to phone my from abroad. If it was a genuine call they could leave a message and let me phone back.

International is unusual -it's mostly "not available" ,and that's usually some wally trying to tell you that you have a "virus" on your PC and they'l get it off for free if you let them have access to your PC. My son has had this on numerous occasions, and he recommends ,that after acting as a PC idiot for a lot of time, you ask them how you set up remote access on a MAC. Never fails,as it's not possible. Exit stage left & right, some ( usually Nigerian) con man .I had one caller with some sort of scheme call me. I asked him if this was a cold call as TPS ban that. he did tell me that mobiles wereexempt. I've refered his number to TPS and ICO . TPO & ICO are not amused , as this was the swecond call after my request for their removal of my data from their data base .

I get a fair few caller s for PPI both L/L and mobile. I am on the TPS too. Beginning to get too many mobile other calls or texts too - so far send the texts STOP but worry that will 'invite' more.

Sign on your door clearly stating NO COLD CALLERS ought to be adhered to ! (I think there is a legal backing to that no time to check that at the moment).

The sign does some good, but I'm trying to get my new dog to be as nasty to knocks as last one. he was a large cairn, who had ideas that he had to let us know of door knockers. Side effect was that his warning sounded dangerous to knocker, and mst times they ran off. Those he met were welcomed ,as we'd welcomed he caller , our KLEENEEZE folks got a warm welcome . But the cold callers didn't see it that way and often ran when he started . Madame is starting to get thast way, and soon, cold callers will knock once and run . I was tempted to put up a sign of last dog with ball , saying"beware of the Cairn, this breed don't go for the jugular, but lower down ".

I recently added my mobile phone to the TPS service - my landline has been registered for some time now and I can't recall the last time I had a cold call on it.

You should never send "STOP" text replies to these :censored: - it lets them know that the random diallers they use have hit a 'live' number. Bit like sending a reply to the "Unsubscribe" link in spam emails...

I'm with "3" and report every spam text I get to their Spam service. Most networks have a similar system to report spam SMS. I just wish there was a way that I could block "Blocked" callers or specific numbers from even getting to the stage of setting my cellphone ringing. Apple must think their iPhone users enjoy getting spam SMS/cold callers on their devices!!!!!!..... :headbash:

SS2 - TPS don't want to know now about spam texts ,but https://www.snapsurveys.com/swh/surveyl ... 4674895144 ( part of ICO) do .
On the door front -I'm now seeing a few more chuggers around, and knocking on doors .

ETA - for those unknown calls -Who calls me " ( http://whocallsme.com/) is usefull .
