We booked to have National Grid install gas to an empty property we are renovating on a housing estate. the rest of the terraced row has gas already (probably for decades now) They did a site survey about a month ago (probably from th comfort of his car) and rang me to say all was well and to confirm a date to install (tomorrow)
My mate's on site today and was visited by the NG health and safety womble who said they couldn't possibly install gas there, due to lack of access (you have to walk about 20 yards after parking your car down an estate footpath) The gas main is on the footpath fronting the house and all in the row of six house already have that rare commodity of gas.
He said to my mate,"how am I supposed to get gas to you", to which my mate replied,"how should I know, you work for them, not me".
My mate pointed out that all had gas in the row so what was the problem?
He then wombled off after agreeing to risk life and limb of his crew by walking all the way down a footpath.
So what was the site survey supposed to point out? Surely he should have done a "health and safety" assessment then. It sounds to me like one of these is a definate non-job.
