On Sunday 7th June 2015, a woman takes the fight of her life to the open road. Janet MacDonald, 47, is heading a convoy of bikers and trikers on the ride of a life time. She is leading this cavalcade in the hope to raise awareness of IPF and the devastation this illness has on the sufferers.
IPF – Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis – will claim another 5000 victims this year, and of those diagnosed, more than half will not make it passed their second year. Janet was diagnosed in 2012 and was given two years to live. She is still here fighting to stay alive. The only cure to this illness is a lung transplant but even this is not guaranteed.
Janet refuses to give in to an illness which kills, even with a feeding tube inserted into her nostril and down to what is left of her stomach, she desperately wanted to do something, but with her limited capabilities, there was not a lot she could do. Her daughter Holly and two close friends, Alexander MacDonald and Susan MacLean, put their heads together and thought about the largest motorbike ride out the Highlands has ever seen. This trip has been organised to bring the awareness to the general public and to raise as much money as possible to show her support to this charity.
For those of us who have seen the effects of this illness, the loss of weight, the extreme pain the sufferer endures, the breathlessness and the knock on consequences on the families and friends the time spent with them is precious. They have to endure so much and Janet is one.
We have seen her laugh when she is in pain, but her infectious nature reflects the strength of her character; although she has lost more than half her body weight, she still leads her life to the fullest. The route is in the shape of a lung symbolising the illness; starting at MFR, taking in Nairn, Forres, Elgin, Aberlour, Grantown-on-Spey, Aviemore, Beauly and ending at BRC Motorcycles in Muir of Ord for food and refreshments.
Janet will be there for the whole day, sitting on the back of a trike gifted to BRC, leading this incredible convoy, Highland Bikers, Caledonian Panthers and Highland Classics to name but a few, to show their respect and support for this wonderful cause.

So if you have a motorbike and want to join us, come along no matter how large or small, or how old your bike is, join us for a fantastic day out. Or know someone who is suffering with a life threatening lung condition, we have set up a mydonate page through facebook.

Log on and look up Holly MacDonald, Alexander MacDonald or Susan MacLean and follow the lead to make your donation count and make this this best ride out the Highlands of Scotland has ever seen.
