just read about how to win arguements on lorries on the esteemed t2000 site and they are promoting freight trains cost the can do 90 - 110 miles per hour. What the... Imagine how twisted knickers would get at T2000 Towers if we saw Scania's doing 110 on M1. Endangered species will be saved if goods are hauled at speed buy rail, but they will be killed if the same goods get hauled by road in a mondern truck at 56 mph, or something.

It's proberbly all to do with trying to give rail a competitive advantage over trucks. It's nothing to do with common sense or rational thought, they will do everything possible to make it difficult to send goods by road and as easy as possible by rail. Goods by rail is not a bad thing, but it should concentrate on what it does best - i.e. bulk frieght over long distances.
