Per today's "Manchester Evening News" Dean Kirby reports...

What the paper fails to mention is the age of the fourteen "motorcyclists" who had their bikes impounded.

I'll bet a pound to a pinch of pig shit that every single one of them was a spotty 16 (or possibly 17) year old on a de-restricted moped.

I'll go even further and happily bet two pounds per pinch of pig shit that of the so called 110 vehicles that were stopped, not one of them developed more BHP than the starter motor of my Z9.

The motorcyclists that were confiscated were part of a crackdown of anti-social behaviour on off road machines. Which my force and I am sure others do to are plagued on a day to day basis,from these lawless low life poor excuse for human beings do.

They ride through parks in convoy at speed narrowly missing children,adults and animals causing untold damage and harassment,it is getting out of hand that we do not know how to best deal with it as most of the machines are not legal ie no insurance none of the riders have any headgear or protective clothing on. Most of them in the housing estates ride around wearing balaclavas so they can not be identified.

Once again the criticismhits the police fom both angles one because they have the cheek to do something about this problem,then you have got the otherhand when they dont do anything they get it just cant win.

Let's get one thing straight here Stephen, my only criticism of this particular story is the failure of the media in getting the WHOLE story across (something which they particularly seem to excel at).

The story is worded in such a way as to give ALL motorcyclists a bad name. I'm sure it does wonders for their sales, but it does people like me no favours at all.
I don't know how old you are, but it was not uncommon 15 or so years ago to pull up at (say) a Little Chef or similar type establishment and find a big bold sign on the door saying "No Bikers".

The only reason this came about was because the media back then had a penchant for bashing motorcyclists, and gave Joe Public the impression that we were all animals who preyed on young girls & bit the heads off of live chickens.
The sort of crap we were supposed to get up to didn't even occur within proper MC's, let alone the ordinary motorcyclists world, but the public being the gullible twats that they are were more than happy to believe it.

Much as I happen to think that the police are fu**ing useless (based on more than one personal experience), I do actually agree with their methods in the case of the arseholes who think they can ride through a public park at top speed on off road bikes.

They are not motorcyclists! In the same way as joy riders are not motorists.

If you do not make the mistake of lumping these people in with the motorcycling community. If you are then you are alienating your self from the one million or so motorcyclists in the UK. That would set a VERY bad example for the police force.

...... in the same way that Boy Racers in chavved up bodykitted hatchbacks aren't proper car enthusiasts and tuners.

Bikers, car enthusiasts etc all suffer these stereotypes. As a driver of a tuned Japanese car, it does sometimes attract the wrong kind of attention too . Thankfully most coppers can tell the difference between a boy racer car and a car enthusiast owned car, but some really need educating though as do Joe Public.

Bikers, I love 'em, I'll always move out your way if safe and one day I will get my licence and join you all, on Ace Cafe runs and stuff! :twisted: 8-)

Did the Ace Cafe London to Brighton last week end.....Nothing compared to the stuff in the US

Done that in 03 and 04 on a rental bike, going again in 06. Nothing to comes close. Its the most un-plugged week you could imagine.

:yesyes: - paper does not say what kind of bikes - but ist a scrappy little photo with the Inspector amongst teh bikes. Look like mixture of mid-range to me - but is very bad photo. :roll:

But anyway - these nuisance not very serious riders had warning :roll: - bike seized according to piece because they ignored warning. :roll:

Such :censored: riders who annoy in car parks and just cause nuisance factor to others ... not real bikers who take pride in riding neatly, effiiciently and making good safe progress - like joy riders as pointed out above are not really committed or even good drivers - and similarly pavement cyclists (and this pavement cycling type generally appear to make up the 5% band of "militant muesli munchers" (aka whining windbags und wimps :hehe: und are also the ones whose eco warrior lycra do not show off fittest of bums 8-) :wink: :lol: :D or look remotely mean, trim ...:love: in their gear...) - are not truest committed cyclists who take pride in good cycling practice over whatever commute or pleasure cycle distances und also look fit! :lol: 8-) . The true committed ones never get doored either as they drive the COAST way! :wink: (I gets it in :wink: :lol: )

I'd say about 95% of all road user - perfectly normal and safe - but all suffer bad press from the minority of idiots.

But I've always ridden a motorbike as well as driven car...had no problem in greasy spoon cafes :lol: Or any other more genteel establishments ... :lol:

Biking (motorised and pedal) like driving .... can be lots of fun.... :love:

I don't think that spotty little w**kers on scooters class a bikers. A >125cc fart box is NOT a motorbike!

Stephen - there's a very good answer to these little oiks on scooters and mini-motos - a well placed steel toecap right in front of the front wheel. With no helmet or gloves / jacket, it won't take em long to discover that road rash is no fun...
