Another example of irrepsonsibiility of part of utilities and road repairs/grid maintenance and heaven help a cyclist on this one!
A little girl was playng outisde her house on a residential road in Wythenshawe when she literally fell down the drain! Papaper shows a phot of the offending grid at the kerbside. It seems residents have been complaining for the past six months and despite numerous call to Manchester CC and the local Housing Trust etc, nothing was done about it. The ittle girl's 'mother told journalist Paul Taylor that the drains get blocked and this drain is one big puddle when it rains.
The kid did what kids normally do - she decided to splash about in the puddle - and ended up to her chest in the drain!

She has some bruising to her legs but fortunately did not apparently swallow enough of the filthy water to make her ill. The residents on this road have contacted the council but get the old fob off and a different department each time

and now each jobsworthy state no record of any complaints.
But regardless of whether on a relatively quiet residential road or not - flooding as result of badly maintained drains and broken grids can cause road traffic accidents and I'd say up to these officials to ensure their maintenance!
