Ultimately we are going to have to accept that all the arguements about convenience and freedom of choice are window dressing for the fact that driving a car is a fundamentally selfish activity.

Improvements to safety design? Ban airbags and fit all steering wheels with a 6 inch steel spike. That might make them slow down a bit

Has this cave-dweller popped up on other forums before? I'd be interested to know what other antediluvian views he (and others) have expressed.

Presumably that's to prevent all drivers from doing an emergency stop when a pedestrian walks out in front of them. What a genius that guy is. Actually I've made a similar comment about fitting spikes to the steering wheels of persistant tailgaters, mainly to express my dislike for drivers who do this. But in reality spikes on steering wheels can be solved by hacksaws in toolboxes.

What? I think this remark shows how uninterested in safety the OP really is.

What is it they say?

"Never argue with a fool as they only drag you down to their level and they always bet you through sheer experience"

Interesting, I have seen that exact sentence elsewhere (or very similar). there may also be a Birmingham connection. I'll see if I can dig it up.

hi all,

how come the council people always seem to be anti-car, why can't we have some people to stick up for us for a change? i think it is only going to get worse and this worries me, come 10 years we'll have to pay for every journey, only be able to do 10MPH or be executed. Fill up with cows dung, and everything will be humps and one-way.

Did anybody see the article in the herald yesterday on page 11:

Ban all cars over 1.8litres

I'll try and get a link later but it made for scary reading and I'am going to put pen to paper to the person who thought this up.

I used to say that a lot on forums when I was in devils advocate mode. Might be the guilty party here. I don't believe it for a minute, but it would stop tailgating overnight /devilsadvocatemodeoff

Get people on a motorbike for a few hours, then they would truly appreciate speed. It can be all too easy to forget when you are in an insular box.
