So ANPR is going to make life easier is it?

Who for exactly? Because it sure as shit won't be me (and 1000's of others no doubt)

I attempted to renew our road tax online this morning, but according to the DVLA, our family car doesn't have an MOT and hasn't had one since new (2000).
Yes the current MOT is one of the computerised jobbies, and the new MOT which was done last week (forward dated for 13 months) is also computerised.

Pull your f**king fingers out, stop wasting my bloody taxes, and employ somebody who can make the system work you incompetent twats :x

Rant over

The problem is that if they employed some compenent people and the system worked, there would be thousands of unemployable morons who are too stupid to do any useful work!

hmmm.. now i understand computerising the records is an enabler to use of the ANPR system.

keeping the records electronically was going to happen at some point anyway, surely?

why have a go at the ANPR concept when its clearly the record keeping exercise that has failed?

Because ANPR is being misused - treated as a panacea - and mis-sold with wild and unrealistic claims.

OK, the 'ANPR' bit was a tiny bit of a red herring.

My point was, if DVLA cannot confirm my car is MOT'd (despite the fact it has been taxed without fail since new), then how the hell is plod or a spycam supposed to know I'm legal??

The next thing I will no doubt suffer is either I am getting a tug and having 30 minutes of my life wasted at the roadside by some spotty 21 year old twat who insists on addressing me (a 40 year old) as 'son', or I'll be getting an instant penalty through the post for driving without a current MOT certificate.

I am fully aware that the MOT deal isn't 'completely live' as of yet, but according to the garbage that is currently being churned out, anybody who has a 'computerised' MOT is already on the list (and our car has had a computerised MOT since last November).

That's not a problem Sixy, they can quite easily be re-employed as camera operatives.

Granted it won't actually be a useful job, but they will be employed nonetheless and this will help the government in juggling the unemployment figures.

I imagine someone never though to tell one of the programmers that an MOT certificate can run for more than 12 months.

But then after 18 years in the IT industry I have probably become a little cynical.

The 13 month bit can't be the issue, because last years MOT (which is still valid until the 30th of this month) was for 12 months only.
