Support For M1 Construction

A report published by the Highways Agency shows that most people are in favour of the proposals to widen part of the M1. More than 700 people, the majority being residents, completed a questionnaire and since the consulation closed, the Agency has been considering the comments.

"The majority view is that improvements to this section of the M1 motorway are necessary, although a number of specific concerns were also raised.," said Lynne Stinson, Highways Agency Project Leader.

She added: "These include disruption during construction, coordination of the schemes planned for the M1 motorway, and dealing with environmental issues including noise and air quality.

"The issues raised by the consultation have helped in preparation for the preferred route announcement which is expected soon."
