The DIAmond Advanced Motorist Test is offering advanced driving test that includes eco-safe driving techniques. Under the latest EU directive on licences, eco-safe driving techniques are now built into the government test taken by trainee instructors and that knowledge is now being passed onto drivers.

WTF is Eco-safe........ :?

here's some 'eco' slogans they can use:

"reducing your speed reduces emmisions" "ride an empty bus/train when a car is not necessary" "Save a Wad, Kill your Speed" "if you can't see the car behind you, you're burning oil" "if you CAN see the car in front, it's not a Toyota - your going too fast" "Car sharing protects the environment, don't ride alone - pick up psycho hitch-hikers" "Clink, Clink every trip - always recycle your empties"

satchi & satchi here I come

Avoid crashing into trees, pandas, tigers and condors
Do not park on the grass - There may be newts or orchids or something.
Wear sandals made from renewable resources when driving
On long journeys, stop regularly to enjoy a relaxing lentil stew
Reroute your exhaust to the inside of the car to avoid harmful emissions
Switch your engine off and coast down hills to help reverse global warming

Seriously though, the regular driving theory test already contains questions that require you to believe that:

Trams are good because they use electricity
Changing gear as infrequently as possible saves the environment

The list of techniques they quote is interesting. They are all things that I do anyway, and are basically about smooth driving and anticipation.

But keeping the traffic moving, and avoiding unnecessary stop start driving, using a higher gear are all there. So when are they goiung to start removing the traffic calming!!

I think it is all a big plan to stop people braking when they see a camera. Avoid unnecessary braking! :)

Yes I do as as well. A bit of "stating the obvious" I think....but now it has a name. Lets see how often it crops up in the press.

How about a name change to Eco-Safe Speed...Ok maybe not. :P
