The snippet about those conforming to the speed limit consistently is quite interesting. First question to ask is how do they know these people stick to limits? They could be the dozy ones that I see regularly that drive the same speed everywhere but claim they stick to the limit (probably because they have no idea what it actually is but think 40 mph is safe anywhere). These kind of people are the menace and there also the most likely to be supportive of the whole speed kills malarky.

The Old Sod isn't Grumpy about Safe Speed:

• Safe Speed is probably the most authoritative website about road safety - genuine road safety, that is, not the politically-correct Trendy Green Save-the-Foxy Fascist kind. Three hundred pages, would you believe?

:)

Thought you might like it Paul, one thing GOS is certainly grumpy about is the present deplorable state of our roads and driving standards.

Another great exerpt...

So what have the council decided? At a Rights of Way Committee meeting this week they decided to ignore the wishes of the public and recommend making the speed limits permanent. They asked us what we wanted, we told them, and they've decided they know better. They even had the nerve to suggest that people who were in favour of the limits were afraid to speak out - because, of course, it wasn't possible that the majority of the electorate didn't agree with them, was it?
