Don't you love the Aussies - they have a road with a straight section 90 miles long called, apparently the "90 mile straight".

Why?, 1st gear in even a small truck is low enough to climb a 45 degree hill.

Look at the heavy haulage tractor units, even pulling a load in excess of 150 tons, they don't burn the clutches out very often.

That’s not nearly the same. There’s hardly any mass to accelerate, hence the truck will go from zero speed to zero clutch-slip quickly.

The lead truck didn’t look particularly heavy duty (to me anyway but I don’t claim expertise here).

It would be interesting to know the total mass and rolling resistance of all those trailers (I couldn’t get much out of Google)
