A colleague of mine was a witness to a bad crash on the motorway earlier today - he was very close to where it happened and although he stopped (he was shaken up by it) by the time he had stopped shaking there were a lot of people around to help, so he continued on his way.

The car that crashed hit the barriers and rolled over, he couldn't see if the occupants had seat belts on or not.

He's called the police and offered his details in case they need witnesses, in the meantime is there any way of finding out more information - mainly to calm his fears that the occupants were seriously hurt? It was mid morning when it happened so there is nothing on the AA roads website (for example) but even that would only tell you what kind of delay it caused.

Thanks in anticipation

Andy

[edited to add: In the cold light of a few hours more to consider the situation he DOES admit that he 'should' have stayed on the scene, but I think everyone makes decisions they regret when stressed or shaken.]

Hi Andy

Sorry your pal saw a trauma.

They usually wait until relatives have been informed before going public and I base this on my own experience here.

If nothing appears in press - signs are that people incurred minor injuries.

Hope this helps your pal and if he feels any stress or illness over what he witnessed - please tell him to let his GP know as post traumatic shock can be prevalent however "remote" he was to the incident. Just to talk and let his feelings out will help him - and it can be with you as pal or anyone who knows him. Deal with lots of tea and sympathy and do not criticise him for expressing how he feels. Let him talk himself out of it as much as you can. That will help him. Honest!
