For not using the car at all
Per the "MEN" reported by Yakub Qureshi - page 17... hundreds of Manchester children and their parents have been praised for leaving car at home.
Children received "points for every green mile" travelled. The winning school in Cheetham Hill reported 92% parents lefe cars in garage of driveways.
The school set up a "walking bus" whereby the teachers escorted the children to school in "crocodile"
But .. as the school pointed out.. all their kids were within a 5 minute walking distance ... up until last March .. these same children were driven to school by parents
In return for encouraging parents and children to walk or cycle to school - these schools received book and equipment vouchers of up to £2.000.
Hmmm! The cynic in me thinks this equipment should have been provided anyway .. via council tax..
Not knocking the idea.. but the little gremlin within me does wonder..
