We went to Bridlington on Sunday and on the way back to the motorway (A614 I think) we came accross a long line of stationary traffic. We filtered to the front to be waved to the side of the road by a young WPO and she asked us to wait while she dealt with a car driver who she'd stopped coming the other way.

We waited and I fully expected her to turn round to us and give us a rollocking for filtering, but instead she came over, explained that there'd been an accident up ahead and she was diverting traffic around the obstruction (we were stopped at a cross roads). She then went on to say that there was probably room for us to get round the wrecked car and we were welcome to have a go! She urged extreme caution because of drivers trying to turn in the road and then let us through!

We got to the accident and managed to get past OK and were on our way!

I was extremely impressed and greatful to the WPO. It would be nice to see this kind of joined up and rational thinking more often.
