.Sorry a rant
Every day on turn on the news to be told another story of how I am changing the climate, and I therefore need to be charged. All long with a story about how I need to be charged more for using my car(even though most of the price of petrol is tax), one for pollution and one because of congestion, yet no reasonable alternative is on offer. (I went on a train last week it was full, and one of the few to be on time.) Along with another story about how the government is going to look into another way of taxing me. Then a story about how they have wasted a load of money, local authorities seem to throw money down the drain. We have the most CCTV cameras in Europe, quite possibly the world, and the highest youth crime rate in Europe. I am told my actions need to be monitored all the time, because I might be a terrorist. We seem to have a two tier legal system; if those that work and try to be become useful members of society, break a minor law (even if it is not intentional) get smacked with the heavy hand of the law. Those that have no intention of becoming useful members of society, break the law get second chances, third chances, etc. Where people believe it is acceptable to nearly kill or seriously injure someone and cause thousands of pounds worth of damage to personal property because they drove (maybe accidentally) down a restricted road. This is a country where we would not consider corporal punishment for a convicted murderer, if I drive a car I might as well be. The government seems like it will not be content until it has taken almost all your money on tax, a brought the country to its knees.
If I remember correctly about only one third of those who voted, voted labour. Yet they are in power, the Prime Minster lied to take this country to war, which was illegal. We seem to becoming a hatful distrusting society. Most people seem unhappy with the way the country is run. But the all the British public do is just tut and put up with it. I really don’t know why?

Edit to add:- Sorry this is in the wrong area,I though it I put in soap box  . Can it be moved?

I remember when you could differentiate between the major parties.

Now they are an amorphous mass of self-serving nothingness.

There is no such thing as voter “apathy” just voter disenfranchise

As far as "putting up with it" is concerned I think that many of us are looking for some one to lead us out of this greyness. Please let it be soon.

From what I read in the papers and hear on the news something needs to be done and sooner rather than later, the later we all leave it the harder it's going to become. I believe they are pushing the British people to see how far they can go, and at the same time putting into place laws under the terrorism act that will be used against anyone that opposes them when the time comes. I'm prepared to join with the rest to get this government out and make any future governments listen to the British people, we deserve better. If nothing happens within the next couple of years, or if the present government get back in then I'm afraid I'm off out of it, we must be the laughing stock of Europe, if not the world. :(

Paul, I'd move this thread to the soap box.

Ree.t , you have put into words very well what the vast majority of young professional people believe about the state of the Country.

Our government is a big, clunky beaurocratic system. A beaurocratic system favours neither good nor evil. It favours only those that know how to play the system.

We, the professional people of Britain, do not have the time to challenge injustices and change the world. We are too busy keeping the world running. This is not apathy.
