The police have objected to many proposed speed limit reductions in Warwickshire.

Needless to say, all these objections have been overruled :x

The old mantra of "if it only saves one life..." gets trotted out again

Interesting that the views of the ELECTED councillorshave not been mentioned -it's all the director of this /the Road safety ??? --but then the county councillors yet again have forgotten that we have county elections again in May .Trouble is (if I remember rightly ) Warwickshire Conservatives have the majority (28 out of 62 ) ,Labour have 23 ,so the Liberal Demoprats can hold the balance .Be interesting to find out if that's what happened ,as inside info earlier suggested that this would be thrown out .

There is a lot of trumpeting round my way about the "success" of getting speed limits in Hampshire villages reduced to 30 mph. This includes an editorial in the usually sensible Daily Echo. There are an initial tranche of reductions with more to come (hundreds) next year.

Although pitched up on safety grounds, there is actually little evidence that any difference will be noticed and the real issue is NIMBYism "I don't want people speeding through my village".

What will actually happen? Well, I think that everyone will carry on as before.

Problem is that some of the reductions are on DC NSL ,where it's either not possible to get any speed up due to volume of traffic or the road is empty (Typical case is the A444 from Nuneaton to J3/M6).
One prize case of lunacy is the new DC extending the A5 - and bypassing the old bit of S/C at Hints .Possibly this a ove to create a case for moving the now redundant Gatso's from the old A5 (or whatever it's called now ) onto the DC - smacks of control freakery ,as the new road hasn't been open long enough to create an accident profile .Meanwhile another A class S/C road nearby keeps it's 60 .

And to add to the lunacy -some time ago in the last round of providing sustainable speed limits (whatever that twaddle was meant to mean)
the village of Binley woods got a reduction from 40 to 30 , done very quietly (with a van hidden on the grass verge almost instantly),whereas the next village (Brandon ) kept it's 40 -same system of lighting ,much the same village layout  :? :? ).

Are they really reducing the limit on the A5 Hints bypass? As far as I know the only speed limit reductions on the A5 are between the M42 and the M1, not west of the M42.

My link was with the initial proposals .
Just looked at the new proposals --way things have been going (despite stories that the review might get watered down ) it was likely that the A5 would get hit ,but one of the other A409x roads would stay at 60 .
Looks like the A5 has escaped this time ,and the A4097/4091 have been reduced .
Didn't think common sense reigned at Warks county hall - but give it time -the Leics section has been slowed to 40 in most places with a few bits at 50 .

]north warwick changes[/url]

(BTW -thought A5 went west to wales -only time it touches M1 is way down south -south of M1 J10)
