Councillor Iain Roberts said: "Police haven't recorded excessive speed as a factor in any previously reported collisions at the junction with Bengal Street over the last five years.
"Residents living past Chatham Street have expressed concern about the speed of vehicles.”
He said speed humps 'aren't practical' on such a busy road, but alterations have been made to the road layout.
I kinow this road well, and would say in that location speeds above 30 mph are virtually unknown. It's also a busy main road, so humps would be totally inappropriate.
The problem arises from drivers making uncontrolled right turns on a busy road. I would say in both directions a right turn ban would not be unreasonable - traffic emerging from the station can easily use the roundabout by the Armoury pub 100 yards up the road.
