It does not appear in Google or Jeeves, no matter how much I replicate the phrases within the web page. How did you find it?

The fact that, at the time I went there, it had only ten hits, now 11 (I refreshed), and you are claiming to have "found it" "the other day", yet have only today "found" Safespeed, is indicative to me that you are either the proprietor or a friend/relation thereof.

Please declare your interest and tell us more.

At first glance to me this smacks of an illegal move - a site asking for people to send in money to evade an offence.

Well I never.

Ok - I'll move this blatant bit of advertising into the Clubhouse so Paul can make a decision as to what to do with it.

It's fairly hateful to spam pretending to be unassociated with the site in question.

On the other hand, I think fighting penalty points is a necessary activity these days.

The site says: "Instead e-mail us with full details of the alleged speeding offence and for a relatively small fee we will undertake all that is necessary to assist you in FIGHTING THE PENALTY POINTS that you may incur."

Perhaps we need to ensure that there's some value for money there before we restore it to public? What do others think?

looks like a scam to me. Only contact details are a mobile phone number and an email address. No legal qualifications, just "send us money". Yeah, right.

Incidentally, about 20 minutes after my acknowledgement, I had a trawl through Pepipoo - although I am not paid in there and didn't search "bad boys". I pinged a PM to Mika as a heads-up.

TBO at first glance I would be very wary of this site myself. It doesn’t look that professional to me. If I wanted legal advice regarding speeding fines I would rather make a donation to Pepipoo. As you already advise people to look at Pepipoo in your sticky, my thoughts are that I wouldn’t post it to the public, not unless you where sure it was genuine.

Or a scamola.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Promoting your own site this way is blatant spam. I'm not even going to give the site the benefit of my click.

I say restore the post to public but delete the link.

I quite like this idea. As I took it out, unless anyone has a good counter, come the witching hour or a bit later, I'll edit each post to sensor the link and move it back.

As an aside, it's actually illegal to charge for legal services unless you are a bona fide member of the legal profession.

Feel free to do that if you want, but it's not what I'd do. There's a risk of looking petty for a start, but I'm personally not very comfortable with moderating by changing part of someone else's post.

We also have a clause in the forum rules that advertising is allowed. It's a damn shame is wasn't done honestly, and it's probably a crap service. But we don't know it's a crap service do we?

Surely if you delete the link the post becomes totally pointless :?

Maybe the best thing to do is just to reinstate the post "as was" and somebody make the comment "that wouldn't be your own website, by any chance?"

Although what is being advertised may be dodgy it is on-topic and could be of interest to forum readers.

Yes. Negative information can be valuable in cases like this. Let's restore the entire thread to public, unless anyone objects.

Ok, taking Paul's judgement I'll move the whole thing back and "uncensor" the title.

Trudi - please come back and tell us more about your services. Apologies to you for my rendering this temporarily absent from public view.

No it serves as a warning.

I'm used to forums where anything like that would be edited and locked or deleted. In my book it's nothing but blatant spam and spam is evil.

But Paul is the boss, if it's OK with hime then it's OK with me.

Hmm, got tip #3 today, it seems to be a dodgy rehash of everything PePiPoo has said:

"The first point to make is if you receive a ticket in the post, *DO NOT SIGN THE DECLARATION* because this is viewed as an admission of guilt. Rather, send the forms back with a signed covering letter.....An excuse which has worked for many is to say....It could have been any one of several friends or family members....Request the police send a photograph .... a great way to protect against Truvelo's is by using PhotoBlocker spray" [edited highlights]

Basically, as mentioned charging for legal advice is very dodgy, and advising people to use paragraph 4 unless the person genuinely cannot remember who is driving is basically conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

Gareth

just had a look, seems like a scam in my opinion

one thing i read tho

"Under the totting up provisions a driver can be disqualified where he/she accumulates a certain number of points within a three year period. The 'magic' number is 12.

If you reach 12 penalty points within the 3 year period (and it is the date of the offences and NOT the date of the hearings which is relevant), then you will be disqualified for a minimum period of 6 months."

is that true, points come off licence after ban, i thought they were there for 3years + 1year regardless???

They physically remain on your licence, but they can only count towards one totting-up ban, so once someone has served their ban the points are "spent".

Don't worry Steve. It may appear a conflict of interest, someone promoting their own site, but actually it's the TrudiGarth Committee that runs the website so they're totally unrelated to each other.
