The 80+ page report from IPCC launches at 10am Friday.

I haven't yet been able to find out what's in it, but I smell the pre-shock of a really substantial earthquake.

I wonder if I should head down to London? I can and will talk with the Gibney family solicitor in the morning.

I doubt it. I'm posting this @10 minuets before the 'launch' of the report. I expect that Brunstrom will be 'cleared' of any wrongdoing. Given that Sir Ian Blair appears to have Teflon shoulders over the Stockwell shooting I can't see that this minor event will warrant anything at all.

No wonder there is a growing feeling in this country towards civil disobedience.....

There is undoubtedly a 'tipping point' but (sadly) I don't think we are anywhere near there yet.

Couldn't have said it better myself. There was little doubt in my mind what the outcome would be.

Another sad day for British justice.

It's just like I said back in April: "It seems the higher up in office you climb the more Teflon-coated you become, right up to the very highest office in the land. What message does this send to the young and impressionable and what hope does it give to the law-abiding amongst us that we are in good hands? Is this what our forefathers died for?"

The report said that the incident "could, and possibly should, have been avoided".

It said: "Richard Brunstrom is a high-profile campaigner in the country against excessive speed by those who use our roads.

The IPCC said Mr Brunstrom was "best served by robust advice from his media and legal advisers in the planning of public statements and events".

To me, that sounds like they don't trust him to ever open his mouth again without putting his foot in it.

They've only just realised that then?

I had a brush with police complaints decades ago. If they havent broken a law it is ok.

Some one with a van stole my motorcycle, 101 days later the police discovered it had been in thier "lost property" for 101 days. It was taken from the front of my property for not displaying a number plate. (it was under repair) the boundery between public and private land was clear.
But no crime had been commited so they were in the clear. They refused to confirm how or where they got my motorbike.
not bothering to let me know they had my bike was not a crime
so my case was added to the complaints not upheld side of the stats.

That is what will happen to Mr Gibneys case

A controversial police chief was facing fresh calls for his resignation last night after he was criticised for using horrifying pictures of a decapitated motorcyclist at a road safety summit.

Richard Brunstrom, chief constable of North Wales, released the shocking images without consulting the victim's family.

'Motorcyclist is outstandingly good': Brunstrom's shocking email to his PR team
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/a ... ge_id=1770

Yesterday an investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission found the chief constable had demanded even more "gruesome" pictures to illustrate his road safety presentation.

In an email to staff he wrote: "We must have better slides. Not enough. Not gruesome enough. Motorcyclist is outstandingly good."

Mark Gibney, 40, a father of three, was killed in a high-speed collision on a remote road in North Wales in Mr Brunstrom used a picture taken at the scene at the "Arrive Alive" presentation for the media in April this year at his force's headquarters in Colwyn Bay.

The picture showed Mr Gibney's head on a grass verge, encased in a helmet with the visor raised and his eyes still open.

The use of the picture led to Mr Gibney's widow and children discovering the exact injuries he had suffered. Until then the details had been kept from them to spare their feelings.

Yesterday the IPCC said that while the chief constable did not need the permission of the family to use the picture, his actions had caused them grief, anxiety and distress.

The IPCC cleared the chief constable of any breach of the police code of conduct but said the incident should have been avoided.

Last night Mr Gibney's family renewed their calls for Mr Brunstrom - nicknamed the "Mad Mullah of the Traffic Taliban" for his relentless pursuit of road safety - to be sacked.

In a statement they said: "Chief Constable Richard Brunstrom has accepted full responsibility for selecting the gruesome images.

"By his actions, Brunstrom caused the Gibney family profound, unnecessary and lasting distress.

"Any chief constable occupies a position of great trust and yet it is clear Richard Brunstrom acted without the family's permission and with no thought to their welfare.

"Some 1,600 people have already signed a petition to the IPCC, requesting Brunstrom be removed from his post. It is high time he was made to accept responsibility for his actions."

The family's solicitor Paul Beck said the family was exploring further legal action.

He said: "The report may exonerate Mr Brunstrom from any criminal act but it shows that he displayed a complete lack of compassion for the family of Mark Gibney."

Martyn Jones, Labour MP for Clwyd South, said that Mr Brunstrom should resign immediately.

He went on: "Despite the report finding Mr Brunstrom free of any official legal wrongdoing, I stand by the view I expressed in April that Mr Brunstrom should have resigned over this incident.

"I feel strongly that if at any point in time his over-arching zeal to persecute motorcyclists had taken a back seat to common sense, he would have perceived the dangers implicit in using these photographs in his presentation."

North Wales Police refused to comment on the report.

The chief constable of North Wales Police has apologised "unreservedly" and taken personal blame for showing pictures of a decapitated motorcyclist.

Not often that he has to eat a portion of humble pie...

So he WILL repeat some of the other errors of judgement then ;)

I think he has been set up to be sued by the Gibney family. His unequivocal admission of responsibility is surely sufficient for the Gibney family to seek damages from him personally. I don't see this as any kind of accident.
