I would expect the credits system to be weighted towards experience, but inexperienced drivers should be rewarded for taking active measures to improve their driving skills. After all, the best way to correct bad driving habits is to stop them from forming in the first place.

I wouldn't mind being allowed to go as fast as 80mph when overtaking or being tailgated when the inside line isn't empty, as a reward for doing pass plus where breaking speed limits where it was safer to go faster was encouraged .

I think I'm swinging the other way about this. Initially I thought good idea, but now I'm not so sure.

How many times have we said 'we had the safest roads ever in the 80s'?

We didn't have or need a positive point system then, so isn't this all part of the modern day life where we make something simple into something more complex just because we can.

Or to have some eminently qualified gents on the roads ,who have the time, inclination, knowledge and experience to pull up those with minor bad habits and show where the more extremes of that sort of behaviour might lead .

Think in days gone past they were called traffic police.

Take it you mean the support act , not the main feature - you'd need three of them - one to find the way out, one to get them back ,and one to look for offenders(and then probably forget to record the registration)- might as well pay for some REAL police, be a lot cheaper ,or recruit from the royal company of archers - they're great at hitting the targets --that's what the police bosses and the politico seem to want these days .

Oh, BTW - I regularly see 'the real thing' in my area on cycles. They ride in twos - ON THE PAVEMENT!
