our essex boys have been told to increase the number of breath tests they do this year by some twenty five/thirty percent or so. A new target .

Have mr garvins boys been given the same type of increase ? If not why not ? If so fine, because it's not a nasty plot to discredit you in anyway.

The cynical way I think is , Maybe they just want to prove other counties do as much "on the road " police work as u guys.

Let us know if u have /or not

We review frequently anyway. We have been blitzing with randoms anyway - Euro 2004 - people get carried away

Will probably continue this throughout summer - BBQs and trips to country pubs! People forget that one leads to two leads over the limit!

But of course! We have recently upgraded our mob to new "elite" value for money division. Is working well.

Problem the other muppets have - they pared down too much and cannot match.

Chumps

Contrary to what Mr B tells you - cop training in many forces has been cut, and community officers are not coppers.

There are less cops - and what few there are stuck in multiple form filling for each and every incident logged.

Scams have replaced cops - and cop numbers are still declining overall.

No free time has been gained - and certainly you hear of scam hotspots utilising one car when prior to scams - they has twelve on road at any one time - and more as required.

In fact - we pull most of our drunks around SCP borders with our patch - because they think we have same policing levels as neighbouring patches and mistakenly take that chance!

Gatsobait - mate

Great post !

If the target is merely to increase the number of breath tests it's easy to achieve just by setting up a few roadblocks (of questionable legality) over Christmas.

Whether that's an effective way of catching offenders is another matter, of course.

For example, at Christmas 1996, Strathclyde Police carried out 14,548 breath tests, but achieved a mere 22 positive results.

Or just set up a stall alongside the RAC man at the motorway services and ask for volunteers. Meeat the target without all the hassle of positive results. :P
