Blimey! and I thought I was being "anal" about weights!

I don't think there's much chance of every MOT station getting a set of scales fitted AND keeping them calibrated! That would just put more money on everyone's MOT! Besides, if it was going to have to be done THAT accurately, we'd all need to take all our CDs, hands-free kits, chip wrappers and other junk out, fill the fuel tank and top the screenwasher bottle up before each test!

I can't see the point to be honest. The brake test weights are just an arbitrary weight that's a bit more than unladen. All cars should breeze through the test. If they are "borderline" then there's something wrong with them anyway. I think it comes down to finding out how many KSIs are caused by defective brakes on cars and then finding out how many of those faults could have reasonably been picked up in an MOT. If the number is insignificant (as I suspect it might be), there's probaby nothing wrong with the current test.

I completely agree about the DVLA data though. This really needs sorting out before they go any further. And what's your bets that once the tester DOES finally get to the bottom of what your car is supposed to be, he won't be able to edit the data that DVLA hold anyway, so you'll have the same trouble next year!
