Residents call for more speed cameras
RESIDENTS in Theobald Street, Aldenham, are campaigning for two extra speed cameras to be installed.
Ken Herbert has voiced concerns that Hertfordshire County Council's plans for two more speed cameras had yet to go ahead.
He said: "I have overseen the aftermath of several accidents. It is immensely sad and upsetting and we would like it stopped by whatever means. The effect of the first speed camera on the road has been quite dramatic, a second one would help cut the danger even further."
County councillor Martin Saunders has raised a formal objection to more speed cameras being installed, to the dismay of residents.
Mr Herbert said: "The residents are fully behind the idea of another speed camera and I think it will help avoid any more unpleasant accidents."
The issue was discussed at a Hertfordshire County Council control meeting on Tuesday, November 9, where members were instructed to think about the validity of Mr Saunders' objection.
A council representative said: "Councillors have been asked to consider whether the objection to the cameras should be upheld, despite the recommendations of road safety experts."
The parish council has been in contact with the county council regarding Mr Herbert's concerns.
Chairman John Howley said: "I'm sceptical as to whether the camera will make a genuine difference, but we have taken the issue up."
