Has anyone got today's Express?

There's an article on page 7 or 8 saying that a new report shows that speed cameras have failed to save lives.

I've already given a radio interview on it, but I don't know what the report is, what it says or where it has come from.

Help!

Liebchen - ist bottom page 7.

Written by journalist Mark Reynolds.

Quote:

Increased use of spped camera has failed to cut death on road - according to new piece of research published yesterday.

The risk of being killed has actually risen by a third - probably because of declining driving standards

Ministers are accused of being too reliant on the 6,000 yellow boxes und failing to put enough traffic officers on the road

:? We have been saying so all the time :yesyes:

Quote:

According to the TRAFFIC RESEARCH LABORATORY fatality rates have risen - despite an official target to cut the number killed or seriously injured by 40% by 2010.

Kevin Delaney (former head of the Met's Traffic Police) says

"We have got to see a return to old-fashioned forms of enforcement - traffic police out there in patrol cars"

:yesyes: We have said very same thing .. repeatedly .. along with COAST

Quote:

The report - prepared for the DfT - described the failures to cut fatalities as worrrying . It found that the number of deaths as a proportion of over-all casualties in major crashes has risen by a third from 7.3% in 1994 to 10% in 2005 - a jump of nearly one in 14 to one in ten.

The DfT still claims speed cameras has prevented up to 1745 deaths/serious injuries per year.

A spokesman says "Good progress has been made toward 2010 targets"

Tougher penalities are now in force for mobile phone abuse, und drink drivers, young drivers and seat belt offenders also face a crackdown"

As far as "good progress" und claims regarding the injuries.. hospital stats do dispute these dubious claims.
