Amir faces M62 speed case

AMIR Khan is to appear in court after allegedly driving at 145mph on the M62.
If convicted, the Bolton boxer could be banned from the road or face a fine with six points on his licence.
He is accused of driving his £87,000 BMW M6 convertible at more than twice the speed limit, near junction 19 of the motorway, at Rochdale on New Year's Eve.


A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "At 3.45am on Sunday, December 31, 2006, police patrolling close to junction 19 of the M62 saw a car breaking the speed limit.
"Officers followed the car, a BMW convertible, which was travelling at a speed of around 145 mph.
"The car was stopped and the driver, a 20-year-old man from Bolton, was asked to produce his documents at a local police station. He has subsequently been summonsed to court."
But the Olympic silver medalist's manager, Asif Vali, says that Amir denies driving at such a high speed.
Mr Vali said: "Amir was given a producer. He wasn't arrested and I don't know where the figure of 145mph has come from. Amir says he wouldn't travel at that speed. We will wait for further information from the police."
He is due appear before Rochdale magistrates on April 23 in connection with the matter.
