The Times
Quote:
Speed cameras are to be deployed randomly to catch drivers who slow down at camera sites before speeding up again.

Cumbria will become the first county to take advantage of a relaxation in the rules governing the positioning of cameras on June 1. Mobile camera teams will be able to operate on any road and will sometimes work in pairs, with camera vans placed a mile or two apart, to catch drivers who accelerate back over the limit.

Last time I publicised an article from the Times it didn't exactly get a warm welcome from Paul. If this one is correct, I think I'll add Cumbria to North Wales as areas to avoid! :(

I heard Steve Callaghan being interviewed about this on Radio 5 Live at about 5.30 pm tonight.

He didn't come across very well...

The Times (or rather Ben Webster) is functioning as an establishment mouthpiece. This story went into today's Times as a spoiler for the Swinton story. I kid you not. I don't know who is responsible, but I do know what happened.

Please don't think for one second that I intended to shoot nedsram as messenger. The 'messenger' here that does need shooting is Mr Webster himself. Are you reading this Ben? Are you aware you are being manipulated? Are you willing?

Shoot me? A humble Times reader? :o

I wasn't entirely convinced by this one myself. However given that the CCP post Talivans on bridges over the M6, I'd be prepared to believe they might think that it would somehow help reduce the accident rate.

So you know where they will be - just down the road past fixed cameras. :)

He also stutter on R2 news this evening.

He been doing this silliness for ages

He accuse us of being "manipulators" for having GPS detectors. Why? They bleep for the scam und they also download where the vans could be too  ... or at least origin und RA do

We installed an electronic gate und garage doors after intruders. Police said we could not run a high voltage current through these devices as this would "not be very nice to the burglar und might injure him!" :hissyfit: How we wanted to though

But these gates do deter.. und we have a CCTV on them too... not that police would collar them  .. but ist there und since we did this.. we not had burglar alarms disturbing our much needed slumbers

But when I posted once in a bantering "tongue in cheek" fashion that our youngest like to play with our keys und we could thus not be sure if she inadvertently jammed his toys  .. he went off on one at my parenting skills  und accused me more of less of using the device to spoil his party games

It was surreal reading  . We practise the COAST we preach  und I only do well over the ton in Germany or on track where ist legal :P .. but like any other person on planet .. any drive or bike ride or even bicycle ride or horse ride or even walking speed will fluctuate by small margins at any one time . .. so hardly "manipulating" anything then

I posted on the other channel - Mad Doc und self been married for almost 22 years. We bought our home here when we were newly weds. We seen accidents rise at Shap .. more so since the van arrived und we also seen deaths on roads rise sharply in past few years... since our subamarinated one took over from old fashioned policing more or less.

In fact .. up from 47 at turn of millennium to 57 at last count - und rising. So not a good record then und ist not me saying so.. but ist in evidence in his own stat returns

Not a great record. Und perhaps telling people to COAST their drives und motivate them to want to improve to highest standard with their ability range .. taking a pride in a skilled craft.. may work a lot better than hiding in foliage around the lolly change signs  Und we live here .. we seen you :P skulking. My sons are the ones who pull funny face und our daughters blow you a cheeky kiss

Yup - I'm looking forward to it like a dose of the clap! Still, every cloud has a silver lining. So far, Mr. Callaghan and his merry men have tried to draw attention away from their abject failure to make Cumbria's roads safer by quoting "at-the-camera-sites" statistics.

Well, once the whole of Cumbria is one big, happy "camera site" it will be intersting to hear the next new set of excuses!
