You will know that Mr Hewitt is the PR man for the Hampshire SCP and, IMO, is second only to Mr Callaghan for his statements in support of cameras.

Two and a half years ago, a Truvelo camera was put up in Hythe and an ex-councillor recently put in an FOI request to find out how many motorists had been caught by it. The request was refused on the grounds that public safety would be compromised.

Julian Hewitt is reported as saying that to release the information would undermine the camera's job as some speed cameras are only active at certain times. He gave figures showing a reduction of accidents at the camera site and said "We have shown that casualties have been reduced and Mr Pearce-Smith (the FOI questionner) does not need to know more than that."

Apart from the arrogance displayed, IMO the only possible reason for not revealing the conviction figure is that it is zero and thus embarrassing to the partnership.

Cash cows make very bad press, so they jump through many hoops to hide their cash cows.
