Five hurt in pile-up

6/ 7/2007

A FIVE-year-old girl and four other people were injured in a four-vehicle pile up.

Police were called to Block Lane, in Chadderton, Oldham, after a collision between a Nissan Micra, Renault Clio, Ford Transit van and a Rover 214.

The 24-year-old man driving the Rover was taken to Royal Oldham Hospital with a head injury while his 25-year-old male passenger was taken to North Manchester General with a suspected broken pelvis.

The five-year-old girl, who was a passenger in the Micra, was treated for a cut to the face at Royal Oldham Hospital.

The 38-year-old male driver of the Micra suffered a minor injury. The 25-year-old female driver of the Clio, suffered minor injuries and was also taken to Royal Oldham Hospital.

None of the injuries are believed to be life threatening.

The crash sparked a massive operation by emergency services involving two fire engines, four ambulances and 10 police cars. M.E.N. reader George Colbourne, 56, a company director who lives near the crash scene, took pictures of the aftermath using his mobile phone.

He said: "You could see that two of the cars had crashed head-on and one of the vehicles was pushed backwards into the wall.

"It was in quite a mess and anyone inside that car was lucky not to be seriously injured.

"Another of the cars ended up on its roof and I think the young girl was in that one."

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call policeon 0161 8568473. [/quote]

No other information. But we have to remember that crumple zones cant write off a vehicle and they are designed to crumple on impact and minimise KSI these days. The crunches always look worse than reality
