Now we have discussed these ad nauseam on this board.
We have umpteen failed schemes to date which we know about here in Cumbria.
Now PH has a thread .. now a saga.. on some scheme in Northumbria which appears to be asking the residents of some village there to report "speeding drivers".
In the original article.. I cannot be

to hunt the link.. go gander on PH for all links to the original piece./
But it seems that
1. villagers are to tell the

of folk "speeding through the village"
OK.. but this article says that they do not have speed guns ... and it's based on the villager's "opinion".
2/ Letters are sent to the offenders "asking them not to speed there" A third one carries a threat to "stalk the car in case it offends"
Now we enter a real problem here.. of "proof of the allegation".. "proof that the car was driven by the owner" and some of these cars could be hired vehicles..

or stolen .. but thug-riders tend to stay within their "marked territory" and not venture to rural idylls... which means these frequent speeders perhaps are .. err +LOCAL YOKELS!
===============================
We have it here.. I'll call us Village B due north of Keswick. Village A speeds through our village as does Village C and D and all speed through each other's villages respectively. You could say that this reflects the estates of the big 'burbs.

We no longer have folk speeding through our village B. No.. there are no submarinated cam vans. There used to be.. but we objected to a most illegal use of our privately owned land a bit back here

I will say that Kevin was most apologetic and understanding in his reply to us.

We did take measures thereafter to make sure our land at this exit to the main road was marked and secured. I admit we were naive and had not put up signs.. so they would have thought it "usable and a park up point"

We had endured the same with the odd tourist on a picnic in the past.,,. but we tolerated that so long as we could gain access to our home.

A cam van ..is .. er.. a bit bigger than the average saloon car..
But why has the situation changed..
We have rumble strips..

A VAS . which the villagers raised their own cash for. .. and funded by the annual "Fayre" which we have on a field we own as part of the original run-down farmhouse we bought on our marriage and went into big debts initially over.

OK.. so I wanted to live where I feel happiest. I wanted a home for my cars and Wildy's cars. We invested hard..andwe darned well have worked to have ourselves own the home rather than the home OWN
us .
But I offer my field free of any charge to most fund raising events.. and we raised plenty to make the local village and the local hamlet actually SAFE... without a cam.. without a gimmick.

3. The original article seemed to suggest that folk were driving through at 70 mph. There is a quote from the police saying they "are not interested in 35 mph through the village"

dammit.. if someone drove at an OTT speed of over double the speed limit in the local village here,. I would want the police to have words IMMEDIATELY over this.. and not some letter without proof .. received some weeks after the event alleging this crime.
But then there exists perception.. .. the real rogue of human logic.

Perception is not concrete proof.
If the person drove at 70 mph through the village... he covered around . er 39 yards in one second.
Can anyone on this board accurately notice and jot down the registration number? You would be hard pressed at 30 mph.. which covers.. 18 or so yards per second.
You know.. if you break down into distance covered in one second.. as the French and Germans and Swiss cover in their L-tests.. it somehow hammers in the stark reality of speed. I think these countries are thus overtaking the UK on the statistics charts for all the right reasons.. as complacency and gimmicks kill. The UK has too many of these
