Police car overturns in field
12:44pm Monday 26th January 2009

A POLICE car careered out of control, crashed through a road barrier, and ended up on its roof in a field.

The incident occurred around 6.50am today in Radcliffe Moor Road, close to the Sparking Clog pub in Radcliffe.

The female driver of the Ford Fiesta sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital as a precaution

The story as printed in the paper gave more detail .. as I understand from Jazz who drove along this road regularly when drumming up support for getting the toll tax referendum to fruition.

This is a nasty bend on an "urban rural" as I understand from my sister. At that time .. sis' suspects "fail to grit or black ice". She hit the barrier and ended up in the field. My sister is not sure .. but she thinks the road is NSL with an "advisory" at the bend..off memory - but would not swear to it without going to double check.

In the main press version .. police would like any witness to come forward on 0161 856 8122 or use the nonny crimestopper line of 0800 555 111.

Glad the officer is OK. That car "folded in half though" and the
local residents say plenty of other cars have ended up in that field.. :scratchchin:

Mad Moggie= Looking at the time it happened then perhaps she had been on all night and should have been aware that the pemperature was falling, and this would have told her not to drive too fast on the approach, coupled with local knowledge, glad she is alright, but no sympathy for her what so ever, once again she has totally forgotten what she was taught at driving school. Lets see if she learns anything second time around there.

Liebchen

You restore my faith in police objectivity in this post.

I hope she does learn. I quoted this post to some on PH to show that police drivers can make the same silly errors as anyone else.

(On the thread about some bloke coming to grief on a mud slick. He ask for advice. I suggest to take photos.. get evidence of police reports und the invoice to farmer responsible for the mud spread.. I gave advice und not negative criticism . even though inwardly .. I KNOW ........ COAST values may have helped the chap)

I hope the lady WPC learns from this experience even though I suspect ice or horse poo, etc, from a local stable cause it all.

If you COAST to the standard IG train me to.. you notice it. I owe IG more than I can say .. even if he had that horrid tone of voice of headteacher at time :yikes:

Why should the farmer pay? If you drive in a rural area you can expect there to be mud on the road at this time of year. Mud is not invisible you know! If you see mud you have to slow down - not blame someone else when you crash because you were going too fast.

I have lived nearly my whole life in a rural area and have been driving on these sorts of roads for the last 26 years and have never had the slightest scare because of mud. Drive to suit the conditions and you will be fine.
