I am being charitable here. Cyclists lentil munchers will complain and huddle together in an "ooeer .. missus"! :rotfl:

OK .. I summarise Ray King here. You can find him on the MEN site to check,.

summary of what ray King wrote:
Ronaldo Crash

Ray King questions use of police time in trying to see if Ron was just more than a bit careless in crashing his Ferrari.

Compare with.. in one of hundreds of letters to date

Ramsay of Roadpeace claims to have contacted Man U about driving standards and been assured that the club was committed to safe and responsible driving. He moans that Ron escaped injury because

rams rant in press wrote:

Experts say that Ferraris are so well built that all occupants are shielded from harm… but that people outside are not.

On going investigation and there are no signs that this car was “speeding” per the latest MEN report.

Quote:
Where would a cyclist or a pedestrian have been if in the path of Ronaldo’s wayward car.

Hmmm. So Ramsay places a cyclist above the more vulnerable who is on foot. I mention this because the cyclists on a forum once attacked Andreas for posting in that order .. making out he cared nowt about pedestrians .. or trying to and failing to.

But thankfully, on this occasion there were not. I do not think pedestrians would be walking that often in that tunnel under the airport either.

OK so Ramsay points out that whatever the cause of the crash .. ,something has to be done about driver “distractions” – only we do not know if anything “distracted the footballer” .. only that he crashed the car which was left hand drive and with which he was unfamiliar. Yes. Agree to a point. . A prudent person may have chosen a quieter moment to “get to know the car properly” but celebs are not famed for such deep thought these days . That’s why they are “celebs” in this fickle world.

Ramsay goes off on one about “research showing and proving that drivers being distracted by technology slow them down by 35%”.

Yep.. looking for speed cams as the only danger …, in some cases. (Experienced this at first hand on an IAM observation of a would-be candidate. Another rant for later.. Ye gods!)

But Ramsay claims they are all “texting or fiddling with an I-pod” which just is not the case .. nor even researched yet – let alone “peer reviewed” and accidents happen for umpteen unfathomable reasons .. and a good many of these by pure co-incidental bad luck whereby that tragic second of very human “numptiness” on the part of all creates the unthinkable nightmare of horror. .

He goes off on one by asking what chance a footballer., Lewis Hamilton or a cyclist if a driver’s reaction is slowed by 35%?

Only he does not know what made Ron crash yet and the MEN have reported that there was no evidence of a mobile phone or anything being used.. just that the car clipped the curve.. shattering the ceramic brakes which made a crash inevitable. Just why he did so.. unknown, Witnesses say the car suddenly dropped a gear before crashing.

:popcorn::scratchchin:

I want to know why Ron dropped a gear./. How he dropped a gear for what reason he allegedly dropped a gear ,, or whether this car suffered a fault for which a German mag claims they are prone to :scratchchin:

This guy can afford Nick Loophole .. who will do the homework . :yikes:

And NO.. I am only too aware that footballers etc may be ace at their profession but more than a bit stupid as regards essential social and driving skills

But despite all this .. I can at least accept that the footballer was not "conversant" nor "at one understanding" with this vehicle. He may have been a victim of black ice. He may not have realised what dropping a gear could do in terms of controlling this beast. I could argue that if you buy such a car .. you have to understand such a car. I understand each of my "harem" as does my wife with this same fleet as her "toy boys" and our qulified driver children as "interesting challenges" )Hey .. these are the quintessentials of driving experiences .. :cloud9:

But when we drive these toys .. of extreme power and luxury and esteem .. prowess.. skill.. "nous" - we have to be 100% sure that we fully know what the pure-bred beast can do here

I paste the MEN article so that all members and lurks may read it all the same and pass comments upon.

Ronaldo 'driving crash car for first time'
Gary Carter and John Scheerhout
13/ 1/2009

CRISTIANO Ronaldo was driving his new Ferrari for the first time when he crashed it, a United team-mate has revealed.

The Portuguese star was lucky to escape without a scratch when he wrote off the £200,000 supercar in a tunnel near Manchester Airport. The front of the 205mph Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorino was destroyed when it hit a wall in the tunnel under one of the airport's runways.

A wheel sheared off and an airbag triggered in the smash as the United star drove from his Cheshire home to United's Carrington training complex.

It has emerged that Ronaldo had taken delivery of the Portuguese-registered, left-hand drive Ferrari just two days before the crash - and it was the first time he driven it.

Team-mate Fabio da Silva, whose identical twin Rafael also plays for United, made the revelation on Brazilian TV.

Defender Fabio, 18, said: "Cristiano had mentioned that he was going to take the car out of the garage, as he had bought it a few days ago, but had not driven it.

"That is when the accident happened. Everything is all right, but we were scared."

World player of the year Ronaldo, 23, was able to continue to training. He was being followed by team-mate Edwin Van Der Sar in a Bentley, but the Dutch goalkeeper was not involved in the accident.

Ronaldo provided a negative breath test to police at the scene. Officers investigating the star for alleged careless driving are expected to speak to him when witnesses have given formal statements in the next few days.

A motorist behind Ronaldo said the Ferrari suddenly dropped a gear before crashing into the wall. Police believe the car's ceramic brakes may have shattered in an initial impact with a kerb, making the smash inevitable

Edited cos Igot quotes wrong and think I still messed it up  :x

I heard that Ronaldo crashed because the referee had refused to have the wall moved back! :D

i didnt pay much attention to it really... but seeing the good road surface and near straight tunnel.. i thought numpty.

cant really see how you can crash a car to such an extent in that scenario.

plenty of money to buy a new one anyway

Ferraris? Well built? I thought they were welded together more or less at random.

If I had to guess, I'd say he blipped the throttle - hoping to make a nice roaring sound in the tunnel from his exhaust, and didn't realise that the back end would slew around - consequently putting him into the wall - thus learning (we hope) that POWER is nothing WITHOUT CONTROL!

UPDATE
Quote:
Ronaldo's car 'was not faulty'
John Scheerhout
February 05, 2009

A SUPERCAR written off by Cristiano Ronaldo was working 'perfectly' before the smash, Ferrari have concluded.

The 23-year-old United star hurtled for 230 metres through a tunnel under a Manchester Airport runway bouncing off the walls in his new £200,000 Ferrari.

The car eventually came to a rest when one of the wheels sheared off.

A police probe raised concerns that the brakes on the 205mph car had been rendered useless by an initial impact, preventing the footballer from bringing the 599 GTB Fiorino to a halt sooner.

Police found three of the four ceramic brake discs had shattered and the fourth had a large crack.

But Ferrari, backed by government vehicle examiners, said the 'brakes as well as all the other safety systems of the car worked perfectly and were in no way associated with the cause of the accident.'

Ronaldo was shocked but unhurt and even went to training. He remains the subject of an investigation. Officers are to speak to him about alleged careless driving.

It is possible he could go on a driver improvement course instead of being charged with careless driving which could mean a fine and points on his licence.

Really .. you have to understand cars like these to drive them properly and safely.

I would support Germany's insurance system if imposed here. Surcharge for above 80 mph on some A/bahn.. but most importantly.. no insurance unless person proven record of handing a stealthmobile.

But then Germany nails the fools because they kept on normal RPU all the same

As does rest of EU in reality

But UK? As lacking in common sense as a scattering of snow revealed.

By the way.. closing schools cos kids might slip on playground?

Helll .. we MADE it slippy. Skating and skid runs were our fun when I was aged 5-18 years of schooling  I learned balance.. danger.. speed.. control of body.. as result . along with survival instincts and sense of real safety.

I drift off the point. but it's al related as we as a nation really are stupid here.
