Road crash deaths were accidental

Four teenagers and a couple in their 60s died in the crash
The deaths of six people in a road crash in Nottinghamshire were accidental, a coroner has recorded.

Ross J 19, Thomas H, 17, Jay T, 18, and Joshua D 18, died in the crash on the A614 near Bilsthorpe on 13 February.

Jonathan and Christine B, of Edwinstone, in their 60s, also died.

Nottinghamshire coroner Dr Nigel Chapman had heard the Peugeot driven by Ross J had spun while overtaking and collided with the Bs' car.

The police investigation found that no drink or drugs were involved and both cars were travelling at roughly the same speed at the time.

Safety questions

It concluded the accident happened as a result of "inappropriate overtaking". :scratchchin:

An earlier hearing was told the victims had probably died before the two vehicles caught fire.

A statement from the family of the Bs said: ""Having had their parents brutally stolen from them has left Jonathan and Christine's son and daughter and their families absolutely devastated. They are very sadly missed and will always be loved.

"This terrible accident also tragically claimed the lives of four teenagers. The family would like to say that they understand the anguish their families and friends must also be feeling.

"They wish to offer their thanks publicly to the emergency services who attended the scene and in particular the police officers who managed to rescue Christine Br from the car."

The families of Mr J, Mr H, ; Mr T and Mr D; attended the inquest but did not comment.

Shortly after the crash, road safety minister Jim Fitzpatrick visited the site with Sherwood MP Paddy Tipping to look at whether additional safety measures were needed on the A614.

Ah.. more speed cams no doubt then. :banghead:

The only true safety measure required relates to training/motivating to keep on learning/evaluating each drive properly. Way too many do not know how to overtake safely. Few learn how to handle their cars properly nor fully understand how their vehicle works.

Very tragic story. We are still left with the problem of how to train up the kids properly all the same.
