Police officer jailed for attack
One of two Kent Police officers has been jailed after being found guilty of assaulting a man during an arrest.
Sgt Oliver Tingley was sent to prison for 90 days and PC Luke Barlow received 300 hours community service, when they appeared at Sittingbourne magistrates.
The pair, who had denied charges of assault by beating in August, were found guilty at an earlier hearing at Canterbury Magistrates' Court.
Kent Police said the two officers would now face a disciplinary hearing.
'Immediately suspended'
The officers were arrested last August following claims they had mistreated a man while he was being arrested on suspicion of robbery in the Medway area.
The man was later released without charge.
Kent Police said the officers, who had been based in Medway, were immediately suspended from duty after their arrest.
Assistant Chief Constable Steve Harris said: "We expect the highest standards of our officers and staff and aim to serve Kent with the commitment and dedication our community deserve.
"No-one is above the law and this case shows that Kent Police treats everyone equally. These officers have failed to maintain the professional standards that we expect."

Bears out what IG says when he states that all are subject to same laws anyway
