Teenager dies in police pursuit

A 16-year-old boy was killed when he crashed a car being pursued by police in Greater Manchester.

Rambo O was behind the wheel of his father's Mercedes when he crashed into a lamppost in Hyde and was thrown through the windscreen.

He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, at 1215 BST at the junction of Fernally Street and Clarendon Place.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has been informed and the officer relieved from driving duty.

A patrol officer had tried to stop the Mercedes E270 and a Subaru on Hyde Road, Mottram.

Second arrest

The Mercedes stopped on Hyde Road but sped off after the officer got out of his car.

The officer lost sight of the car as it left the motorway at junction three before later discovering the crashed car on Clark Way, Hyde.

A passenger in the Mercedes was taken to Tameside Hospital for treatment to his injuries and has since been arrested on suspicion of taking a vehicle without the owner's consent.

A Subaru was later found on Canal Street, Stockport, and a 23-year-old man arrested on suspicion of theft and burglary.

Officers are trying to establish whether the recovered Subaru is the one that failed to stop before the fatal crash.

A passenger in the Mercedes ... has since been arrested on suspicion of taking a vehicle without the owner's consent.
