CS gas attack on driver

A TEENAGER was sprayed with CS gas in a botched attempt to steal his car.

The 18-year-old was sitting in his Fiat Punto outside the Ho-Li Chinese takeaway on Long Street in Middleton, Rochdale, when two men approached.

They twice asked him for a cigarette and when they returned for a third time they forced the door open and sprayed CS gas inside. The men also punched the driver in the face but he managed to sound the horn and they ran away.

Det Con Julian Peach, of Rochdale CID, said: "This was a frightening ordeal for this man, who was simply waiting outside the chip shop for his partner. I'm appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time, but in particular to a man and woman who were standing at the bus stop on the opposite side of Long Street. They may have vital information and we really need them to get in touch."
