Cleaner caught 13 times by same speed camera (12/01/2010)
Last week brought news of a man who'd been charged with drink-driving twice in the space of just a few hours.
But a 36-year-old cleaner may have trumped him, after it emerged she had been snapped by speed cameras 17 times in June and July of last year.
Wolverhampton Magistrates Court heard that in the alleged incidents, Geraldine Tavares had been recorded travelling at speeds ranging from 40-61mph in 30mph zones.
And remarkably, on 13 occasions she had been captured by the same speed camera, based in Willenhall Road, Wednesfield.
Pleading guilty to four sample offences, Geraldine Tavares told magistrates that she had been unwell at the time.
Disqualifying her from driving for two years and imposing a £100 fine, chairman of magistrates Paul Clewley warned Tavares that her health problems meant that she would have to re-apply for her licence.
During the case it emerged that the Citroen C3 driven by Tavares, which belonged to her disabled mother, had been impounded in October under a totting up ban for previous speeding offences.
Speaking after the case, she explained: "My mother's car was taken off her because my speeding in it broke the terms of her contract.
"She will now have to wait two years before she can apply to have it back."
