I mention this because it is local to me, and because the two killed were known to people I know...
Two teens killed when VW Golf ploughs off A34 in Boxing Day horrorQuote:
Two teenagers have died in a road accident.
The men, said to be aged 18 or 19, were killed instantly when their car veered off a dual carriageway and into a field at 11.50pm on Boxing Day.
The crash, on the A34 bypass, near Handforth, left two fellow passengers, also aged 18 or 19 injured. All four travelling in the car were local, police said.
Detectives in Cheshire are investigating.
A Cheshire Constabulary spokesman said: “Just prior to 23.50 hours on Sunday, 26 December 2010 a single vehicle road traffic collision occurred on the A34 Handforth bypass at its junction with the A555, Handforth, whereby a black Volkswagen Golf had left the carriageway into a field.
“On the arrival of the emergency services, two males were trapped within the vehicle. They sadly had received fatal injuries.
“Two further male passengers had managed to free themselves and were conveyed to Wythenshawe Hospital with what are described as non life threatening injuries.”
Police want to hear from witnesses or anyone who saw the Golf driving between Parrswood entertainment complex, in Didsbury and the crash site prior to the collision.
There's a lot of ignorant jumping to conclusions in the comments

The road may have been slippy with ice just starting to melt, and if you accelerate on that kind of surface you can easily come to grief.
I'm sure a lot of effort is put into understanding how these crashes occur, but these single-vehicle accidents do seem to be depressingly common.
