http://uk.autoblog.com/2011/02/01/Brake ... mit-50mph/

They talk about 23% exceeding the 60MPH limit at least once a month, they obviously don't realise that back in the sixties and early seventies, probably 75% of drivers, did it at least ONCE A DAY...legally and safely too.

These people really should get out more.

My views do not represent Safespeed but those of a driver who has driven for 39 yrs, in all conditions, at all times of the day & night on every type of road and covered well over a million miles, so knows a bit about what makes for safety on the road, what is really dangerous and needs to be observed when driving and quite frankly, the speedo is way down on my list of things to observe to negotiate Britain's roads safely, but I don't expect some fool who sits behind a desk all day to appreciate that.

Not nit picking ,but up till at least the late 70's idiocy of allocating different limits to classes of roads -speed on the speedo was not a consideration -( except in built up areas, and even there it was a matter of choosing the correct speed for the conditions).
Would suggest BRAKE look at the alternatives before wandering through a quagmire .

it's IMHO not speed but the quality of riving that is the problem .not so long ago i used to travel to Peterbrough along the A14 & A605 .Along the a14 , constant of repmobiles tailgaiting etc.Once on the A605 same group at 40 in long line .No one would overtake ,although the opportunities existed.

Drivers are like donkeys -they respond best to a carrot, not a stick .Road safety experts are like Asses - best kept covered up ,or sat on
