Hundreds of vehicles checking during speeding blitz

Written byCLAIRE HARRISON

COMMUNITY cops have checked more than 500 vehicles during an operation to put the brakes on speeding motorists.

Members of the North Warwickshire East Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) were asked by residents living in Ridge Lane to make dealing speeding and overweight vehicles a priority.

As a result of the request raised during an east area community forum, the local SNT set about launching a sting to try and tackle the problem which was causing concern to the local community.

They completed almost 50 targeted patrols in the area, during which they checked the speed of more than 500 vehicles.

Just over ten of the vehicles checked were caught speeding, the majority only marginally, and three traffic offence reports were completed. ( My bold)

Two lorries were also found breaching the weight restriction limit, one of which was reported for the offence.

A spokesperson for the SNT said: “Further to all this, the team have worked closely in conjuction with other agencies including Tarmac, Archbolds and the Road Safety Officer. Finally the team also made contact with DSV to adapt delivery routes and SatNav.”

The team reported the results of the blitz back to the community during the latest east forum meeting, and it was decided that the issue is no longer a tasking priority.
nIMBYISM OR WHAT ?

Time and again this happens. Local "concerned residents" get a community speedwatch scheme only to find that there is no problem. 50 patrols, 500 vehicles checked - 10 per session. They must have been rushed off their feet!

Did thay have a portable weightbridge then?

It didn't mention that, but we have quite a few "scrap metal " vehicles around who will take anything not tied down and are frequently well laden , if not overladen to the eye. If it wasn't so serious it would be comical ,especially as I & others have been trying to get a drug dealer put out of business and one of his non insured cars impounded ( which would leave him on 12 points ,since it's not so long ago he was hit for no tax/insurance and had another impounded).
