"Daily Waily Mail" (James Mills reports)

A taxi driver who raced to a police station to turn in three yobs who were molesting a woman on the back seat of his cab  :? has been fined for speeding!

Gary Flincroft was copped by scam at 37 mph in a 30 mph zone. To make matters worse - when he arrived at the cop shop - it was SHUT! :? :? :? :x and the thugs smashed their way out of his cab and fled the scene.

It seems the cabby picked up the three yoofs outside a Hull night club. A woman and her boyfriend agreed to share as they were going in the same direction. The boyfriend sat in the front and his girlfriend in the back
(No way would I have allowed Wildy :neko: to be alone in back with unknowns - she'd have been in front seat! )

They apparently started touching her and the cabby and boyfriend told them to stop - but they carried on and things became uglier and more threatening - reportedly. The woman was crying and the yobs began to threaten the boyfriend with violence. The cabby decided to head for nearest police station - fearing an escalation of violence. It was closed and he dialled 999 and locked the cab - but they smashed the rear window in to make their escape. Ten minutes later the police patrol car turned up.

A few days later - NIP drops on Mr FLintcroft's mat and is told he will have to plead "not guilty to speeding at court if he wishes the charge to be squashed! :? :? (per paper!) It means he loses a day's work and income - more than £60 fine! As he says - - court could still find him guilty and hack up costs.

In the meantime Humberside Police have appealed for anyone with information about these thugs to come forward.

A spokesman said: "Mr Flintcroft could lodge a written appeal agaisnt his fine.

" Speed cameras cannot distinguish between legimitate speeding for a reason and other speeding. NIPs are raised automatically "[i]

Ya don't say!  :? :furious:

This spokesman reportedly continues that the driver has a right to appeal - either in court by pleading not guilty or in some circumstances the partnerships cancel the ticket /

[i] :? :? On each occasion - ambulance driver transporting a liver where time is of essence given deterioration of organ - man with a heavily pregnant wife - chap who was taking a sick son to hospital - it was only after the press jumped up and down and brought to public attention

However, as we know police stations keep office hours these days. Last week we read how a mother of drug addict sons traipsed all over Manchester to find open police station after discovering her drug addict sons had been committing burglaries and muggings to feed the habit - and refused all offers of help..

We need police stations to be open - so that we can report crime - especially since we apparently live in age of home grown terrors.

No surprise to find the police station shut - par for the course these days except for the larger ones. Actually not even all of them. Our nearest largish one was 24/7 when I was a kid, but office hours now. And we're being told that we've got more cops than ever before... so where the hell are they all? Obviously not working nights, are they? Still, I've had a bright idea... get this, it's a stroke of genius. All we have to do is persuade criminals to commit their crimes only in office hours and there'll be plenty of police available and the cop shops will allbe open. Good eh?

Back to the point, I doubt the taxi driver will go as far as the courtroom now one of the dailies has picked it up. It doesn't fit in well with the friendly gatsos image that they try to put over, and of course they really don't want the indiscriminate nature of automated enforcement in the press much in case the driving population at large starts poking around and finding other faults.
