Salga Chauhdart reports:
"Bolton Evening News" headline to night's paper as per thread title and show picture of the car with driver's door and font wing badly crumpled/
The police car collided with a Fiesta whilst in pursuit of a stolen Golf in Bolton. The woman driver was injured and taken to hospital wiht minor injuries
It seems the police had been chasing this car for over three miles from Farnworth to Brieghtmet, Bolton when the accident occurred. A detective in an unmarked car spotted the stolen Golf in Farnworth at 3.20 pm yesterday and realised it had been reported stolen after a burglary in Accrington, Lancs. This officer chased the Golf through Bolton Town Centre and Tonge Moore and Thicketford Road until the outskirts at Beightmet. The stolen car smashed into parked cars in Thicketford Road and extra officers were called at this point.
A police spokesman said the detective stopped chasing when the traffic police got involved and they chased the car into Winchester Road, Beightemt where the accident occurred.
One of the pursuit cars collided with the Fiesta at the T-junctions with Withins Lane and the impact sent both cars spinning whilst the Golf sped away! The drivers and passenger then abandoned the Golf and the police helicopter took over as these thugs ran in the direction of Bury.
The police driver involved was treated for shock at the scene but otherwise unhurt.
Police say all cars were on blues and twos at the time. Winchester Road was closed follwoing this collision whilst forensics examined the scene - so that they could establish exactly what happened.

It is lucky this happened in holiday times Noramlly this road would have been full of children coming home from school at this time and the lollipop lady would have been standing in the road.
Apparently Withins High School is nearby.
Later - two men 28 year old of "no fixed abode" and a 17 year old local lad were both arrested in connection with the theft of the car.
If anyone out there saw this incident or know anything about this incident - Bolton police would like you to call them on 0161 856 7273 or Crimestoppers 0800 555 111
But what's the betting a speed cam/mobile unit will appear on Winchester Road after this?
There is a photo on page two of this paper and it looks to me as if one or the other pulled out of the junction (mini roundabout) into the path of the other . Looks like overgrown hedges obscuring the view of the road as well on one side.
