This was in my local news paper this week.

GRIM THOUGHT
Traffic officer PC Nick Woodcock and Cheshire road safety chief Peter Gordon launch the Lost Soles campaign in Whitby.

Part of Whitby Park was filled with more than 350 pairs of shoes.

Organisers of a safety campaign used them as a reminder of how many empty pieces of footwear were left as a result of serious road accidents in Cheshire last year.

The lost Soles campaign has been launched across the North West by LARSOA – the Local Road Safety Officers Association – and the six regional police forces.

The empty shoes in the park represented the 67 people killed and the 652 seriously injured in Cheshire 2004.

The campaign is specifically aimed at the number of collisions where speed is a factor, under the slogan Speed Limits are Not Targets.

Inspector Brian Rogers, of Cheshire Constabulary’s road policing unit, said: “Excessive or inappropriate speed is recognised as a major factor in many road collisions”.

More like "Lost Marbles"

I hope the 652 people that didn't get killed turn up and demand their shoes back.

Thinking about it again strictly speaking “lost” soles are those who have gone to hell. So those who have been killed in accidents have gone to hell.

Could make an interesting complaint

That's a cracker :rotfl:

There’s a picture with the article showing a police officer and road safety chief squatting in the middle of the shoes holding a ticket with speed limit signs on it. Maybe it’s a new type of lottery ticket.

I would have put it on hear but I don't know how to, It’s a pity you can’t put pictures on this forum too (haven’t got a web site).

This stunt seems to be drawing upon images used to portray the horror of the holocaust, namely the displaying of personal possessions each one of which belonged to a victim. I saw this at the Imperial War Museum a few years back and its impact is undeniable.
Therefore, I would rate this 'display' as a tawdry attempt to play off the back of the horror of man's inhumanity to man. If I were a holocaust survisor I think I'd be pretty sickened by it.

There are quite a few websites where you can register and have images hosted for you. Someone on here suggested www.fotopic.net which is who I've been using since.

Errmmm.....

Isn't Whitby in North Yorks?

A county which has bucked the trend by showing a reduction in deaths?

What's wrong, are they worried about a backlash from disgruntled motorists on their home turf? So they take the campaign to a scam-free county? Or did they just fancy some fresh air?

Can't you make up your own town names?
